Embassy hosts refresher course on US visitor’s visa application

A refresher workshop, opened to all internet café owners/operators, will be hosted by the US Embassy on February 25 to inform persons of newly implemented procedures since the introduction of the DS-160 online non-immigrant visa (NIV) application.

The main purpose of this workshop is to help internet café owners/ operators understand how to accurately complete the interactive online application so they can encourage their customers to also use it. There will be live demonstrations on the use of the DS-160 application and handouts will also be available for all in attendance.

Persons may indicate their interest by contacting the US Embassy on telephone number 225-4900-9 ext 4320 or 4327 between 10 am to 3 pm before February 23. More details will be made available after confirmation of attendance.

The form is available at http://georgetown.usembassy.gov/non-immigrant-visas. html, and is a requirement for all non-immigrant US visas except fiancé (K) visas. This application has been introduced and used at all US embassies and consulates worldwide. US Embassy Georgetown has been using the DS-160 non-immigrant visa (NIV) application since April 1, 2010.

According to a press release from the US Embassy, Georgetown, the online application enables applicants to upload a visa photograph, fill out the application in English (the form provides several translations but must be completed in English), and submit the form online via the internet. This application, therefore, eliminates the need for each traveler to print an application to take to the Consular Section at the time of the interview. This form should be completed at least three days prior to the interview date and applicants must print out the DS-160 confirmation sheet and take it along with their scheduled appointment confirmation page to the Consular Section. If applicants fail to bring a DS-160 confirmation page on the day of the interview, they will not be granted an interview.

It should be noted that when scheduling appointments via the online appointment system, applicants must first complete the DS-160 application, as they will be asked for the DS-160 confirmation number for each traveller upon making the appointment.

Applicants are also asked to take all other applicable supporting documents as needed for NIV applications, such as the visa MRV receipt from Demerara Bank, I-20, SEVIS receipt, etc. Further details are available at the Embassy website at http://georgetown.usembassy.gov/non-immigrant-visas.html
