Craftsman remanded on house break-in charge

A craftsman accused of a house break-in was on Friday last remanded to prison after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

The allegation is that on February 8 at Georgetown, Junior Luther broke and entered the dwelling house of Joseph Watson and stole therein a cell phone, a pair of boots and other items valued $30,000.

The defendant who resides at 35 Pike Street, Kitty denied the charge of break and enter and larceny when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

In presenting the prosecution’s facts of the case, Police Corporal Venetta Pindar said that on the day in question, the virtual complainant secured his home by means provided and went out and upon his return found the accused in the upper flat of his house with the articles mentioned in the charge.

The police were summoned to the scene where Luther was arrested and charged for the offence.

After listening to the particulars of the case, the unrepresented Luther was remanded to prison until Friday for report and fixture.
