New Guyana Company says Mirror building not sold

The Management of the New Guyana Company Limited, publisher of the Weekend Mirror newspaper says its property at Industrial Site has not been sold.

The company made the disclosure in a statement on the front page of this weekend’s addition of the Mirror newspaper.

It was a response to a caption to a photograph in the February 7th edition of Stabroek News pointing out that the building was now being advertised as the pending site of an appliances depot. The caption said that there were reports that the property was recently sold to a New York-based businessman. The New Guyana statement said that the Weekend Mirror continues to maintain its offices at the said location and will continue to publish the Weekend Mirror.

There was no explanation in the brief statement about the appliances depot which is to open at the site. Sources told Stabroek News that the appliances depot is to be run by a New York-based businessman. The statement also did not explain where the Mirror is presently being printed and what has become of its printing operations. Recently, the Mirror has been printed at the plant that prints the Guyana Times.

Even though its circulation is limited, the Mirror is continuing to receive state advertising which the government cut off from Stabroek News and other private newspapers.
