Several persons in the area said that the man might have been in a drunken state when he stumbled on the mouth of the culvert and fell, hitting his head and subsequently died.

One man said that he had left Rose at the Foxy nightclub after 2 am yesterday. The club is approximately 100 yards from where the body was found.

Another man said that Rose normally frequented his father’s business place and would assist in closing the shop at nights before leaving. The now-dead man was there on Saturday night and up to the time the man left at 8pm; Rose was still there, he said. “When I talk to my father he said that Henry asked him for $200 to buy bread and he give it to him and he left after the business place was closed.”

Rose’s common law partner, Faye Paul, said that he had been living with her for some months now.

Paul told this newspaper that Rose left their South Amelia’s Ward home at approximately 3pm on Saturday in search of a job. “He came home around 2:30 and eat and left saying he was going to see if he could get a wuk some place because nothing ain’t doing at Bovell (Bovell Construction)and I ain’t see he back since then”, she recalled.

Paul said that she was surprised that her partner didn’t return home on Saturday night and recalled asking a close friend to call his phone on her behalf. “Manning called and called but he ain’t get no answer then I get a call saying that he deh in deh drain over deh river dead”, said Paul.

According to the woman, she was surprised that the man’s bicycle was nowhere to be found. “Something wrong here, he don’t go no place without his bicycle. Drunk or sober he always moves with he bicycle”, she said.

The woman expressed the view that Rose might have been attacked and robbed of his bicycle.

She also speculated that he might have stumbled and fallen into the drain and someone passing in the darkness saw the bicycle, picked it up and fled the scene.

According to Paul, Rose celebrated his 52nd birthday last Tuesday.

The couple reunited approximately six months ago after they were separated for several years.
