Culture Ministry hosts Mash social for seniors, orphans

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport hosted an afternoon of fun and relaxation for 100 persons, including orphans and senior citizens, as part of its programme for Republic anniversary celebrations.

According to the Government Information Agency (GINA), the group, including differently-abled persons, was feted at the Bandstand in Kingston.

In his address at the function, Culture Minister Dr Frank Anthony said this feature of the celebrations has been held for the last five years. “I am pleased with what I am seeing but I think the weather has affected the turnout, because generally we would have had a larger turnout,” he noted.

Mary Bushelle, a resident of Uncle Eddie’s Home, said she enjoyed coming out each time the ministry hosted the event. She also commended the ministry for promoting steel pan music as she is a big fan and is only treated to the sounds around Mash time. Agra Winifred Wills echoed Bushelle’s sentiments, while adding that she found the music very relaxing and different.

GINA said the audience was drawn from homes across Georgetown and the East Coast Demerara. Many of the attendees expressed gratitude to the ministry for the event. The Guyana Police Force band and the ministry’s steel pan band provided entertainment.
