A 58-year-old security guard, who was attacked by a co-worker with a cutlass early yesterday morning, was in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital up to press time last night.
Jaipaul Surujpaul of 43 Houston, East Bank Demerara was attacked by a fellow worker some time between 7.30 am and 8 am on the Houston High Bridge.
According to reports both men had just left work.
Surujpaul’s wife told this newspaper that her husband had gone home around seven yesterday morning and “help me put out fish and tell me he going and collect flour”.
She said the attack on her husband came as quite a shock to her. “He nah tell me if he and this man got problem.”
While Surujpaul’s attacker was taken into police custody, doctors had to rush the man into surgery to try to save his right hand which the doctor told relatives at the Georgetown Public Hospital was almost cut through.
Surujpaul also reportedly lost a lot of blood following the attack. He also sustained injuries to his left hand as well as a fractured skull.
