Kevin Verwin who is accused of murdering his reputed wife Farida ‘Suzie’ Ramdeen was today remanded to prison after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against Verwin is that between March 4 and 6 at Houston, East Bank Demerara (EBD), he murdered Ramdeen.

He was not required to plead to the capital offence of murder when it was read to him.

When asked if he wished to say anything else, Verwin promptly responded; “I did not kill ‘Suzie’ meh worship.”

In presenting the facts of the case, Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that Ramdeen and her reputed husband Verwin had left their West Coast Demerara (WCD) home on March 4 to visit an aunt who resides in Albouystown when the man decided to change his plans and caught a car bound for Houston instead.

At Houston, Telford told the court, the accused then ordered Ramdeen to accompany him to a dam where he murdered the woman and dumped her body in a nearby trench.

The prosecutor said that the accused later told his relatives what he had done to the woman. According to Telford, the police were later called in to launch investigations and were taken to the scene by the accused where the woman’s body was found.

He was later arrested and charged with the offence. The prosecution requested that the man be remanded to prison and a date be set for the commencement of the preliminary inquiry (PI).

When asked by the acting chief magistrate if investigations were complete, Telford said no, and the prosecution was then ordered to complete same within six weeks.

The accused was then told by the magistrate that bail would be refused for the offence committed. He has to return to court on April 15 for reports and fixtures for the PI.

After being addressed by the magistrate, an unrepresented Verwin calmly exited the courtroom.

Ramdeen, 20, of Vreed-en-Hoop Squatting Area, WCD, was found dead in a Houston EBD trench early Sunday morning.

This newspaper was told by relatives of the young woman that she was involved with her alleged attacker for about six months.
