Fire scare at Queen’s College

Quick action by Queen’s College students averted disaster after electrical wires in a classroom started to spark yesterday morning.

Fire Chief Marlon Gentle confirmed that there was a fire scare at the Thomas Lands facility around 0900 hours yesterday.

According to Gentle, some electrical wires began to spark in a classroom, burning a florescent lamp in the process.

He said that by the time four fire tenders arrived, students used fire extinguishers on the sparking wires. No one was injured.

Stabroek News understands that the minor fire occurred in a Sixth Form classroom. Classes later resumed.
