Alex Moore sworn in as temporary magistrate

Alex Moore took the oath of office before Prime Minister Samuel Hinds yesterday morning to become a temporary magistrate.

The official swearing in ceremony took place at the Office of the Prime Minister, Wight’s Lane, Kingston, in the presence of Chief Justice Ian Chang and Moore’s family members, a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said.

Prime Minister Hinds welcomed the new magistrate to the legal fraternity and urged him to carry out his responsibilities according to the oath to which he swore.

Chief Justice Chang congratulated Magistrate Moore  and opined that he had no doubt that he will make much of the opportunity to serve.

Magistrate Moore later told GINA that he is delighted to enter the public service and to contribute to the jurisprudence of Guyana in the hope that he can bring an era of dignity and decorum to the office while improving confidence of the public in the administration of justice.

Moore studied at the University of Guyana and then at the Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad and went on to earn a Masters in Law from the University School of Law in Virginia, USA.

After he graduated he was admitted to practice in six countries – Guyana, Trinidad, Barbados, Grenada, St Vincent and the British Virgin Islands.

According to the release, Moore said he chose to serve Guyana because lots of developments are evident and he is passionate about contributing to the advancement of his homeland.
