Miner stabbed to death at Mahdia

Even as police in the E and F Division are battling to solve a number of murders since the start of the year, yet another miner has been killed, this time at Pamela Backdam, Mahdia. The suspect in this latest case has been arrested.

Police said in a press release yesterday that the only name given for the dead man so far is “Shane.”

Investigations have so far revealed that the deceased was involved in an argument with another man around 20 15 hours on Friday night during which he (Shane) was stabbed in the chest. He was taken to the Mahdia Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A resident of the mining community said that the fatal stabbing occurred some nine miles from the populated part of Mahdia and the area is only accessible by pick-ups and ATV vehicles.

This newspaper understands that a team from the city has been dispatched to the area to investigate.

Last month, two miners Lawrence Martindale and Richard Melville Titus were stabbed to death in separate incidents.

On March 7, Martindale a resident of Sophia was stabbed during a robbery at the Port Kaituma Landing.

Several days later, Alberttown resident Richard Melvin Titus was stabbed while sleeping at Five Star Backdam, North West District (NWD).

The killers are still on the run.
