Lighthouse undergoing minor repairs

The Georgetown Lighthouse is undergoing minor repairs following a leakage caused by the recent rains.

The Maritime Administration Department is advising that the facility remains open to public, according to the Government Information Agency (GINA).

Works to upgrade the facility were undertaken by Andre Howard Construction Services at a cost of $11M last year and included repairs to the stairs, metalwork, walls, furnishing, other facilities and external surroundings. During the recent rains, a leakage was discovered and the contractor was notified and is now carrying out remedial works.

The lighthouse, which towers 103 feet above the high water mark, is one of country’s historical landmarks.
