Salesmen charged with cigarette theft

Two ex-salesmen were yesterday charged with stealing a bale of Bristol cigarettes.

It is alleged that on April 5, at Charlotte Street, Kamal Hassan and Steve Sobers stole a bale of Bristol cigarettes, valued at $135,000. The article was the property of Edward B. Beharry and Sons. Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

As there was no objection to bail by the prosecution, Hassan and Sobers were granted in the sum of $60,000 each and the case was transferred to Court Three for April 12.
