(West Indies Players Association) After speaking open and honestly in an interview yesterday with KLAS FM in Jamaica, West Indies Cricketer Chris Gayle felt extremely relieved to share with the people of the Caribbean what he has been through with the WICB and the ways he has been treated unfairly by them.
To further clarify his position, Chris felt it necessary to detail a few key points that he wanted to make sure were understood by the people of the Caribbean. Here in his own words are the two key points he would like everyone to know:
“I WANT to play cricket for West Indies. I am a West Indian first and it has been a privilege to play for my country and the West Indies.”
“The ONLY reason I asked to be made ineligible from the Pakistan tour was to try and continue playing cricket for a living. I was dropped from the West Indies Team with no communication whatsoever with no hope of being able to play cricket again for West Indies. I found out I was dropped from the team through the media and was then told by the WICB that the only way they would release me to go and play cricket in the IPL was to make myself ineligible for the Pakistan tour. I was FORCED into that position.”
At the end of the day, the one thing that Chris believes is that he has been treated unfairly and wronged by the WICB and that through his performance he has earned a place to be playing on the West Indies Team. He has been hurt by the treatment he has received and even more hurt with the thought that because of the action of a few his career with West Indies may be ended prematurely. Despite all that has happened, Chris wants everyone to know that he remains devoted to West Indies Cricket and continues to hope that he will be able to once again represent the people of the Caribbean as a member of the West Indies Team.
