Man remanded over forged Power of Attorney and related offences

A 42-year-old man was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton after he appeared on three different charges, one of which was obtaining money by false pretence.

The first allegation against Tyrone Semple (no address provided), aka Gregory James, is that on February 24, in Georgetown, he conspired with a person(s) unknown to forge a Power of Attorney, purporting to show that it was signed by Christine James, Ingrid James, Sandra Pollard, and Janice James. The second and third charges read that on March 15, with intent to defraud, he obtained $6M from Peter Ramcharran, by falsely pretending that he held the Power of Attorney [for the four women in question] and was in the position to sell a property situated at Lot 10 Area ‘G’ Goedverwagting; while on the same day he forged an agreement of sale and purchase, purporting to show that it was signed by Gregory James.

As the charges were all indictable, the defendant was not required to plead.

In his application for bail attorney-at-law Lance Ferreira, who represented the father of two, stated that his client has an unblemished record and posed no flight risk.

However, Police Corporal Venetta Pindar objected to bail on the grounds that there are other matters of a similar nature being investigated, which pertain to the accused, and if set free he is not likely to return to court.

The accused was then remanded to prison and the matter adjourned until May 25.
