The police say they are investigating an incident that occurred at about 0130h today at Good Hope, ECD, where businessman Ramdat Balkarran, 45 years, was shot and injured.
Investigations revealed that David Balkarran, 23 years, was awakened by two men armed with handguns and who had gained entry to the home by removing a number of louvre windows. A police release said that he was held at gunpoint and taken to his parents’ bedroom where Ramdat Balkarran and his wife Shireen Balkarran were also held up.
The three victims were placed to lie on the floor, whereupon the armed men began to beat Ramdat Balkarran about the body while demanding cash and jewellery. He was then shot to his abdomen.
It is not yet confirmed if anything was taken away by the two men who subsequently escaped.
Ramdat Balkarran was taken to the GPHC where he underwent emergency surgery and is in a stable condition.
