Good Hope businessman shot in home invasion slowly recuperating

Businessman Ramdat Balkarran, who was shot in the abdomen on Friday by one of two men who invaded his Good Hope home in a robbery attack, was up to press time slowly recuperating in the Male Surgical Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

According to one of the injured man’s relatives, the East Coast Police are still looking for the perpetrators.

Ramdat, 45, was admitted to the Male Surgical Ward of the GPH following the incident which occurred some time around 2 am on Friday. Balkaran’s wife, Shireen Balkarran, was slashed to the right arm by one of the attackers after she resisted their efforts to tie her hands and feet.

The Balkarrans live at their Lot 443 Good Hope, East Coast Demerara residence and business place with their son.

Investigators had discovered that the two men, who according to Ramdit’s wife had disguised their identities by tying handkerchiefs over the bottom half of their faces, had entered the house by removing some louvres from a side window of the house. When Stabroek News visited the home on Friday, Ramdat’s wife said that she and her family have been living in the area for about 12 years and have been operating their general store for about a decade. “This is the first time anything like that ever happen to us,” Shireen stated.
