Passenger in bus that killed man at Strathspey sustains broken leg

Kenford King, one of the passengers who were in the bus which struck down and killed Jagdeo Ramnarine on the Strathspey Public Road early Friday morning, is in the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) nursing a broken leg.

The man recalled that he was in the bus heading to work in Georgetown, and they were going at a regular pace of “25 to 30” mph. “The bus wasn’t speeding,” King, who was sitting in the seat behind the driver, stated.

“When we reach Strathspey turn, I don’t know what went wrong, if the brakes malfunction or what, all I know is that I feel the impact,” the elderly man said.

King said that as a result he was pinned in the bus, and had to be assisted.

He said he knew nothing much of what transpired on the scene afterwards, as he was quickly transported to the hospital for treatment, where it was found that two bones were broken in his right leg. He also suffered a gash to his left leg which had to be stitched. King said he’s expecting to be released from the hospital some time within the next few days.

Ramnarine, popularly known as Narine, died on the spot after he was struck down by the minibus.

The man of 78 Section ‘B’, Non Pariel had reportedly just stepped out of a minibus and was waiting to cross the road when another minibus carrying passengers swerved off of the road in an effort to avoid colliding with an oncoming vehicle and instead hit Ramnarine, leaving him pinned against a wall.

Apart from King several other persons who were travelling in the minibus were also injured, including the conductress and two nurses, employed at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
