$57M well commissioned at Parfait Harmonie

-to service 15,000 West Bank residents

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) commissioned a new $57M well at La Parfait Harmonie on Wednesday that is expected to serve  about 15,000 West Bank Demerara residents.

In his address at the ceremony at Westminster, Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali said the new well station will significantly boost water supply in the area. According to a press release from the GWI, he noted that Region Three boasts one of the largest housing developments in Guyana and it is essential that water facilities are installed in the area.

The new well is funded by the government and executed by the GWI and the Central Housing and Planning Authority.

GWI Executive Director of Capital Investment and Planning Ramchand Jailal said the new well has a depth of 572 feet and has the capacity to produce 144 cubic metres of potable water per hour. The well will serve Canal Number One, La Parfait Harmonie and La Grange. “This new well was completed with a 40ft stainless steel screen which adds to its durability and safety,” Jailal added.

The release said Ali, assisted by residents, unveiled a ceremonial plaque at he ceremony.
