Gas station workers shot and robbed recount attack

The two gas station workers who were shot and robbed on Friday night while on their way to make a cash deposit at Citizens Bank automated teller machine and safe deposit facility at Thirst Park, Mandela Avenue, yesterday recounted the attack from their hospital beds at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

According to Pierre Fordyce, 37, and Mohamed S. Wahid, 49, who both work at Two Brothers Gas Station, they had just arrived at the bank facility and parked and while about to exit their vehicle, a white Toyota Carina, PHH 3712, a man brandishing a gun came from the direction of Guy America Furniture Store and ordered them out of the car.

In his recount, Wahid said that on the night of the incident, some time before 9:00, he and the gas station’s security guard [Fordyce] were in the process of transporting the night deposit when the incident occurred.

Fordyce, who celebrated his birthday on Friday and who saw most of what transpired, related that the man did not wait for them to exit the vehicle, but came up to his side of the car and opened fire. Fordyce said the man first shot hit Wahid (who was in the driver’s seat) in the head. Fordyce said the man then shot him [Fordyce] in the groin area. The man then proceeded towards Wahid’s side of the vehicle, and dragged the semi-conscious man out onto the road, then, again, ordered Fordyce out, while pushing him with the gun to his back.

The bandit then jumped into the car and drove off making good his escape with the bag of money which was in the car at the time.

The two employees said they don’t know the amount of money that was carried away as they are never told how much money they are transporting whenever they perform that duty.

Fordyce said he did not get the chance to see the perpetrator’s face, as he was busy trying to get out of the way as the man opened fire.

When this newspaper visited the GPH, both Fordyce and Wahid were in a stable condition in the Male Surgical Ward and the High Dependency Unit, respectively. Wahid, who still has the bullet lodged in his jaw, and who was injured to the lower left cheek and just below his left shoulder blade, said he is scheduled for surgery on Monday for the removal of the bullet. His sister-in-law was heard saying that “dem does always get rob or something like tha but not to this point.”

This newspaper understands that the police later found the car in which the men escaped near Cool Square in the West Ruimveldt area and one person was reportedly held in connection with the incident.
