Sithe Global hosts community meetings on Amaila Falls hydro project

Developer of the Amaila Falls hydropower plant Sithe Global will this week be holding community meetings in Linden and Georgetown to discuss the recently released Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Report (ESIA).

According to an advertisement placed in Sunday’s edition of this newspaper, the meeting in Linden will be held at 4 pm today at the Linden Constabulary Hall. Tomorrow, a similar meeting will be held at the Hotel Tower in the city. Starting time for this meeting is also 4 pm.

The Amaila hydropower project, the advertisement said, is being developed by Sithe Global, through its local subsidiary Amaila Falls Hydro Inc. “Sithe Global has over 300 years collective experience in implementing large scale, socially responsible power generation projects,” the ad said, further stating that the company manages other energy projects around the world totaling over 7,000 megawatts.

The company, in the advertisement, said it “is committed to developing the Amaila Hydropower Project in a transparent way that considers local community interests and minimizes social and environmental impacts.”

Synergy Holdings Inc “is only constructing the access road portion” of the project, which will allow Sithe Global to begin construction of the hydropower plant, the ad said.
