UNESCO is sponsoring a five-day creative writing workshop at the National Library from August 8-12.
According to a press release the project will be supervised by Writers in Concert, headed by Petamber Persaud. The workshop will be exploring genres of writing such as poetry, fiction and children’s literature. There will be three groups of participants: an open category, an under-18 category and a category focusing on writing for children.
Facilitators will include a winner of the Guyana Prize for Literature and local and international academics who specialise in teaching literature and creative writing.
The goal of the project is to encourage more local writing and to help market and publish it.
The release said the workshop will be held weekdays from 9am to 4pm. Participation is free and selection is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
