Cops find shotgun at Corentyne robbery suspect’s home

Police on Tuesday recovered an unlicensed 12-gauge shotgun while conducting a search on the No. 60 Village Corentyne home of an armed robbery suspect.

Police said in a press release yesterday that the suspect had been arrested following investigations into an armed robbery committed on businessman Deochand Hemchand and his wife at No. 11 Village, Corentyne, on Sunday.

During the robbery, the couple was attacked and robbed by four men, two of whom were armed with a shotgun and a cutlass.

Reports are that around 12:25am the men broke into the house and robbed couple. Hemchand was chopped to the hands and head during the incident.

The perpetrators took away $200,000 and a quantity of jewellery before escaping.

Hemchand was later admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
