Miner found dead at Port Kaituma backdam

The police are investigating the death of a 44-year-old Port Kaituma resident under unknown circumstances sometime Saturday night in the backdam.

The body of George Persaud was flown out of Port Kaituma yesterday and is now at the Lyken’s Funeral home awaiting a post-mortem examination. Stabroek News understands that the man was discovered dead sometime early yesterday morning and a report was made to the police.

“His death was sudden…” a resident told Stabroek News.

Persaud worked in the backdam as a pork knocker and according to the resident, his wife has now indicated that he had complained of persistent headaches over the past few days.
