Two held after cops intercept stolen taxi

Quick work by police resulted in the recovery of a motor car, which was hijacked on Tuesday night and the arrest of two suspects who were found sitting inside the vehicle.

Police said in a press release that around 7:55pm, taxi-driver Carlton Jerrick, 50, of North East La Penitence, Georgetown, was attacked and robbed of his motor car, HB 6228, at Meadow Brook Gardens, Georgetown, by two men whom he had picked up as passengers.

Jerrick had picked up the men at Vlissengen Road and was taking them to D’urban Backlands when he was attacked by the two men who choked him, put him out of the car and escaped with the vehicle.

A report was made to the police and patrols were alerted via the radio network. Quick response led to the motor car being intercepted by a police patrol at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, and the two suspects inside were arrested.

They are in police custody assisting with the investigations, the release added.
