-10 relatives injured after bus and truck collide

A two-year-old child is dead and around ten relatives are injured after the  mini-bus they were in collided head-on with a truck this morning.

Confirmed dead is Malvin Hartman of Coomacka Mines, Region Ten.

Among those in the bus were the child’s father Henry Hartman, who was the driver, his mother Suzette, and three siblings who all suffered injuries in the crash which occurred sometime after seven at Surapana.

They are being treated at the Linden Hospital Complex.

According to eyewitness accounts, the bus BKK 5112 was negotiating a turn when it collided with the truck GNN 2507 belonging to Pioneer Construction Company.

Malvin was flung from the vehicle on impact. He died instantly.

Passers-by then rushed him and the injured to hospital.

The truck driver is in police custody.

The bus driver was transporting his family and a few other relatives from Coomacka to Linden after which he would have travelled to the city to work. (Cathy Richards)
