A 22-year-old father of two arraigned on charges of threatening behaviour, unlawful wounding, throwing missiles, abusive language and assault was granted bail in the sum of $75,000 on Friday when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.
The allegation against Youganan Basdeo is that on March 19 at Georgetown, he made use of threatening behaviour with a piece of wood to Meripaual Dreapaul resulting in a breach of the peace.
On June 19, he is alleged to have unlawfully and maliciously wounded Dreapaul, while on July 19 he allegedly threw missiles to the annoyance of the said Dreapaul.
Further, on July 19 it is alleged that Basdeo made use of abusive language to Lukesha Balkarran and unlawfully and maliciously assaulted her.
The security guard who resides at T66 North Sophia denied the charges when they were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
No facts of what transpired on the respective days were presented to the court.
Attorney George Thomas who represented the accused made an application for his client to be granted reasonable bail, stating that he has no antecedents, poses no risk of flight, has a fixed address and has been cooperating with the police.
The prosecution had no objection to the accused being granted his pre-trial liberty.
When the bail amount was announced, the lawyer made a further request for a reduction to $60,000, stating that his client is of little means and is the sole breadwinner of his household. Thomas’ application was, however, denied.
The matter was transferred to Court One for reports on September 12.
