Suriname Parliament objects to `inhumane’ jailhouses

(De Ware Tijd) PARAMARIBO – Journalist Nancy Lodik had to spent 2 weeks in the inhumane jailhouse of the Geyersvlijt-precinct before everyone from the President’s Cabinet, the Prosecutor General‘s to Parliament took action. Parliament deliberated behind closed doors about Lodik’s ordeal for 2 days. Speaker Jennifer Geerlings-Simons says the entire house has decided that she should send a letter to the highest authorities reflecting their dissatisfaction with the situation. Lodik was arrested because someone had illegally used her lost ID-card to post drugs.
