Witter, Lewis and Benschop cleared in unlawful assembly case

Unionists Norris Witter, Lincoln Lewis and social activist Mark Benschop were on Friday last found not guilty of unlawful assembly after an almost two-year-trial.

Presiding over the trial, Magistrate Geeta Chandan Edmond informed the trio that the case against them was dismissed as the court found them not guilty.

At the end of the trial, the prosecution did not present sufficient evidence against the men.

The charge against the three was that on July 15, 2009 at Young Street, Eve Leary, they unlawfully assembled outside the police station.

The matter was heard at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
