Man accused of assaulting, threatening woman

A 32-year-old man accused of assaulting a woman and allegedly using abusive and threatening language towards her was on Friday placed on $25,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton.

It is alleged that on August 11 at James and La Penitence streets Albouystown; Georgetown, Sherwin Mounter unlawfully assaulted Tesha Jeffrey. On the same day also, Mounter who resides at 98 La Penitence; Georgetown is accused of using abusive language and threatening language towards Jeffrey thereby resulting in a breach of the peace.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Mounter who appeared anxious to tell his story before he was cautioned by the Magistrate to keep what he wanted to say for the trial; revealed briefly that he is presently sharing a relationship with another female who is pregnant for him.

According to him, it is he who is the victim of the charges levelled against him as the complainant [whom he said is his ex-girlfriend], dealt him a lash to his hand after finding out that he is an expectant father with another woman.

“She [the VC], does be troubling me meh worship, I don’t do she nothing,” Mounter said.

The prosecution’s facts were not presented to the court.

The prosecution had no objection to the unrepresented defendant being granted bail but requested that he have absolutely no contact with the complainant.

The court subsequently granted the accused his pre-trial liberty but warned him sternly not to interfere with the VC; an undertaking that Mounter acceded to.

The matter will be called again on October 24 at Court One.
