Kamla: Ties between T&T, China will be stronger

(Trinidad Express) Ties between Trinidad and Tobago and China will soon be stronger as Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced that a Trade and Investment Office will be established in China as part of a proposed Trinidad and Tobago Embassy in the People’s Republic of China.

This was announced yesterday by Kamla Persad-Bissessar at the Opening Ceremony of the 3rd China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Forum at the Hyatt Regency (Trinidad) yesterday.

“The Government of Trinidad and Tobago recognises that there is a need for a facility to promote an even stronger business relationship between the Caribbean and China,” said the Prime Minister

In his presentation, Chinese Vice-Premier in charge of economic, energy and financial affairs, Wang Qishan said that China, being a developing country , “has provided assistance within its capability to Caribbean countries without attaching conditions.”

He said in the next three years, the Chinese government will take six policy measures to deepen cooperation with Caribbean countries.

“First, we will enhance financial and investment cooperation… We will step up capacity building cooperation (enhancing human resources by providing training opportunities for Caribbean nationals in China)… We will strengthen cooperation in environmental protection and new energies… We will intensify cultural, educational and health co-operation…We will promote closer trade and tourism cooperation… And we will boost co-operation in agriculture and fisheries,” said Wang.
