Rupununi tractor operator fined $32,500 for being without a licence and DUI

A man who pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and operating the vehicle without being the holder of a licence in the Rupununi was yesterday fined $32,500 after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Paul Lio was charged on September 13 at North Rupununi with driving motor tractor 2389 when he was not the holder of a licence. In addition the accused operated the vehicle while being under the influence of alcohol as his blood alcohol level was 77 microgrammes, making him incapable of having proper control of the motor tractor.

The accused admitted to both of the charges when they were read to him.

The defendant was subsequently fined $25,000 for driving without a licence and $7,500 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
