Duo remanded over Bourda Market $1M gunpoint robbery

Two men who allegedly snatched over $1 million in Bourda Market at gunpoint were yesterday remanded to prison after they appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation is that on September 23 at Bourda Market being armed with a gun, Shawn Welch and Michael Taylor robbed Indira Dhondoo of three cellular phones valued $120,000, a quantity of gold jewellery valued $300,000 and $1 million.

It is also alleged that on the same day the duo robbed Ameer Kharim of one Blackberry cellular phone valued $150,000.

Welch who resides at Lot 81 Castello Housing Scheme and Taylor of Lot 135 Victoria Street, Albouystown pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them.

The prosecution objected to bail and the two accused were remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourned until October 18 for report and fixture at Court Five.
