Dredge owner killed in accident at Mahdia

A 40-year-old dredge owner was on Friday killed following an accident in Mowasie Backdam, Mahdia, Potaro.

Dead is Mark Anthony Hamid of Lot 267 Section ‘A’ Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

According to reports, on Friday, the dredge owner was driving a truck in which four others were passengers when the truck encountered mechanical problems and began rolling downhill. It reportedly toppled before coming to a halt. Hamid was pinned in the process, and had to be cut free from the wreckage. He died on the way to the hospital.

This newspaper understands that one of the other occupants, who had also been in the cab of the truck, had sustained minor injuries, was hospitalized, and was later discharged. Reports are that the other three occupants, who were in the tray of the truck at the time of the incident, jumped from the out-of-control vehicle and escaped uninjured.

Hamid is survived by his wife and three children, and other relatives.
