Cops injured in crash in stable conditions

The two police officers who were flung from the motorcycle they were travelling on at the junction of Middle and Carmichael streets on Wednesday evening have been admitted to the Male Surgical Ward at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Carlson Europe, 20, of Lot 33 Friendship, East Coast Demerara, was riding the motorcycle at the time of the accident while 22-year-old Oral Venture of 168 One Mile Extension, Wismar Linden, was the pillion passenger.

Europe seemed to be more responsive as he indicated injuries he sustained to his right leg. “My leg break but they ain’t tell me nothing much,” he stated, adding that he sustained a small “burst in the head” and other minor cuts and bruises about the body.

Meanwhile, Venture was a bit more hesitant to speak but was seen with a large gash to his head and also serious bruises on the face. He too sustained injuries to his right leg.

Europe had told Stabroek News that they were on their way home when tragedy struck and the last thing he remembered was bright lights and some amount of commotion. “I just remember the lights and then somebody saying get he in the car quick, get he in quick,” he said from his hospital bed.

The two injured men are uncertain as to when they will be discharged but are said to be in a stable condition.
