Guyana sews up 16 of 28 CSEC awards

The Ministry of Education today said that Guyana has secured 16 of the 28 awards that will be given out to top performers in the region at the recent Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC).

It said that Anuradha Dev of Queen’s College, who is the overall top student in the Caribbean, is also the top student in science.

A release from the Ministry said that Guyana has now won the top award for the fifth time in six years and the best science award in the Caribbean for six consecutive years.

Mariesa Jagnanan, also of Queen’s College has won the best business student award while Nathan Benjamin Indarsingh, another Queen’s College student has gained the award for the Best Short Story in the English A examination.

The release said that the awards were approved last Thursday at the meeting of the Sub-Committee of the School Examinations Committee (SUBSEC) in the Barbados.

The awardees will receive their prizes at a ceremony scheduled for the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Trinidad and Tobago on December 1. The prize package includes a full scholarship to the University of the West Indies, monetary prizes, plaques and books.
