A Surinamese man who entered Guyana illegally by sea was yesterday fined $30,000 after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine–Beharry.

He was also ordered to be deported.

On October 9 at Springlands, Corentyne, Surinamese Budhram Rambharos entered Guyana by sea and disembarked without presenting himself to an immigration officer.  The accused pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

According to the facts, on the day in question the accused left Suriname by boat and crossed the Corentyne River and drove to Kumaka where he worked as a boat builder. However the man became ill and took a  flight from Mabaruma and  on his arrival at the Ogle airport he was questioned by immigration. Following an investigation it was found that Rambharos had failed to present himself to an immigration officer on arrival in the country.

The accused will remain in custody awaiting deportation.
