CARICOM SG on Barbados mission

CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque will pay an official visit to Barbados from today  to Thursday this week, the CARICOM Secretariat at Turkeyen said in a press release.

During his visit the Secretary-General will meet today with Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart and Foreign Minister Maxine McLean.

Ambassador LaRocque will also be paying courtesy calls on the heads of a number of regional institutions based in Barbados, including the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, the CARICOM Development Fund and the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

Moreover, there will be meetings with the heads of the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ) and the Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD) as well as the Programme Co-ordinator for the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC).

The release said further that the Secretary-General will also take the opportunity to meet with leaders of the Barbados private sector as well as with the group of tertiary students from Barbados who participated in a Regional Project entitled “Youth Engaging the CSME”. The Barbados Head of Government has lead responsibility for the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) in the quasi–cabinet established by CARICOM leaders.

LaRocque is also scheduled to have an interactive discussion with representatives of the Barbadian media, the release added.
