(De Ware Tijd) SCHIPHOL – Yesterday, Suriname’s Consul-General in Amsterdam, Rou Lieuw A Sie opened the special desk at Schiphol Airport where travelers to Suriname can purchase a tourist card. Some 50 cards were sold within three quarters. The first to buy a tourist card was Chietra Dewansing, who lauded the convenience of the procedure. “I bought my ticket via Internet two weeks ago. And now I can buy a tourist card shortly before check-in for the flight. You only need to show your passport and ticket,” she says. Tourist can now buy a tourist card when they check in for a flight to Suriname. They only need to present a passport that is valid for at least six months and a return ticket. Also present at the opening of the speial tourist card desk were Cliff Limburg, press officer of the President’s Office, and Lucretia Redan, depuy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Limburg was making a report of the event, and in front of his camera many passengers were very enthusiastic about the tourist card and its convenience. Redan presented the second booklet with tourist cards to the Consul-General on behalf of Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Lackin. An evaluation will take place in three month’s time to determine whether the new tourist card has actually helped increase the number of tourists visiting Suriname
