Kensington Oval looking to solar power

(Barbados Nation) The Caribbean mecca of cricket could soon be powered by the sun.

Faced with a massive, rising utility bill in the range of Bds$1 million annually, Kensington Oval is trying to find a way to shift its operations to a solar powered system.

Chief executive officer of Kensington Oval Management Inc. (KOMI), Henry Inniss, in an exclusive interview with the SUNDAY SUN, said the state-of-the-art facility had been able to increase its revenues each of the last four years, but those efforts have been stunted by high utility payments.

For more than two years, the Oval’s electricity bill was more than Bds$120 000 monthly, and its water bill, in the region of Bds$25 000 every four weeks.
