Man charged over Issano Landing murder

Lloyd Henry was today charged with the murder of Carl Francis, 24, a miner who was stabbed to death at Issano Landing, Mazaruni River last Wednesday during a drunken row.

The particulars of the charge are that on December 14 the accused murdered Francis.

The man was not required to plead to the capital offence after it was read to him by the acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine–Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrate’s court.

In presenting the police facts to the court, Prosecutor Lionel Harvey said that on the day in question, the accused went into the shop at the said landing where Henry and two others were consuming alcohol. The prosecutor added that an argument ensued between the accused and Henry which later resulted in a scuffle. He further related that the accused who was armed with a knife dealt the now dead man, two stab wounds to his abdomen and another to his arm. As a result the deceased was rushed to a nearby hospital however he succumbed while receiving medical attention.
