Portia says nothing wrong with gays in Cabinet

(Jamaica Gleaner) People’s National Party President Portia Simpson Miller has declared that she would have no problem with appointing gays to her Cabinet.

Simpson Miller says no one should be discriminated against because of his/her sexual orientation.

According to Simpson Miller, ministers should be appointed based on their ability.

Jamaica Labour Party Leader Prime Minister Andrew Holness was less committed in responding to the question, saying that his position would be guided by the desire of the country.

At the same time, Holness said Jamaica would continue to protect the civil and human rights of all citizens.

Holness and Simpson Miller are now participating in the national leadership debates.
