Sacked T&T minister calls for an independent probe

(Trinidad Express) Fired government senator and minister Mary King wants an independent investigation to be conducted on her behalf.

In a telephone interview with the Express on Tuesday, the former minister of planning, economic and social restructuring and gender affairs said she would have preferred if Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar relied on an independent report from the Integrity Commission before firing her.

“I think that I would have preferred that we had an investigation done by the Integrity Commission, but that was not done, so I am now asking the Integrity Commission to do an independent investigation on my behalf,” she said.

Asked whether she agreed with the Prime Minister’s decision, King said, “I could not say at this time”.

“I can’t agree or disagree if the Prime Minister is right, but I would have preferred this would have been done after a report from the Integrity Commission.

“I don’t want to say if the Prime Minister acted in haste or not. I just know that where I am, I am going to the Integrity Commission to have a proper investigation done.”
