Suriname tourist robbed, killed

(De Ware Tijd) PARAMARIBO – On Monday evening, 42-year-old Anthony Eersel was robbed by two men of his golden necklace and wallet. Eersel was then knifed and subsequently died.

The two robbers escaped in a waiting car. Eersel was staying with his mother and sister during the first two weeks of his vacation and then rented a house on the street where he was robbed and killed. “I never expected this. I was looking forward to spending a nice vacation with my daughter and son”, Eersel’s mother tells DWT.

Eersel was taken to the Intensive Care Unit of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo, but died before his family could speak with him. A neighbour DWT expressed shock and surprise at Eersel’s violent death, “because this is a quiet neighbourhood”.
