Teacher to go on trial over carnal knowledge

Dwayne Hilliman, the teacher who is accused of the October 3, 2007 carnal knowledge of a girl who was 13-years-old at the time, was  committed to stand trial in the High Court after a prima facie case was made out against him on Monday.

The preliminary inquiry (PI) into the matter concluded before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Since his arraignment, the accused has not been required to plead to the indictable charge.

After being remanded to prison after his initial appearance at court, he was admitted to bail in the sum of $500,000 at a subsequent hearing.

The allegation against Hilliman, who was 25-years-old and resided at 156 Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara at the time of the alleged incident, is that on October 3, 2007 at Georgetown, he had carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old girl.

At the time of the alleged incident, Hilliman was an Information Technology (IT) teacher.
