Juvenile remanded over Blackberry robbery

A 15-year-old lad who was charged with robbery with violence committed on a 16-year-old girl  appeared yesterday  before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

According to the particulars of the charge, on December 5 at Smyth Street, the juvenile robbed a teenager of one Blackberry cellular phone. The lad pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

Prosecutor Neville Jeffers told the court that on the day of the incident, the VC was walking along Smyth Street and was attempting to take out her phone to make a call when she was approached by the accused who slapped her and snatched the instrument from her and made good his escape.

After the commotion the teenager raised an alarm and the police who were in the area gave chase and the lad was arrested and taken into custody.

The prosecutor also highlighted that the phone  was discovered on his person at the time of the arrest.
After stating the facts the prosecutor objected to bail citing the seriousness of the offence and noting that no one had appeared in court on behalf of the accused considering that he is a juvenile.

The matter was adjourned until December 16 and the defendant was remanded to prison.
