Exceptional service now from Immigration Department

Dear Editor,

I write to sincerely commend the Immigration Department of the Guyana Police Force for the exceptional quality of service being provided to members of the public.

Quite recently, I had cause to visit the Camp Street headquarters several times within one month and I must say that unlike years gone by; the physical environment, courtesy and waiting-period are all major strides that are worthy of the highest recognition when compared to where they were.

No longer did I have to wait under a hot zinc roofed shed on backless-benches at the risk of being rain-sprayed but now I am allowed entry by the courteous Immigration Officers inside a building on arrival. When I and my family and cousins had cause to transact business there for the first time in January, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that we no longer had to wait until 8 AM before documents were accepted. Because they now do this from 7 AM, I was able to transact my business early enough to do other errands before going back home.

Not only has the waiting time been significantly reduced but I am quite impressed that the Immigration Department is one of the few government-run customer-service entities that transact business during the lunch-hour and even up to 6 PM. The management of the department and indeed the entire Guyana Police Force must be congratulated for what appears to be an efficient management system.

The Immigration Department also stands out as a model to even many private sector businesses where courtesy and diligence are concerned. Perhaps, other visitor-related organisations will do well to emulate the Immigration Officers.

This is truly a service-oriented organisation.

God bless and lots more success in the future.

Yours faithfully,
Clive Singh.
