Let the game decide

Dear Editor,

The rift between the two Demerara Cricket Boards seems to be ultimately based on the disagreement about the number of delegates/votes from Georgetown, West Coast, West Bank, East Bank, and East Coast Demerara.

My humble recommendation is that the Minister of Sport and the Berbice and Essequibo Cricket Boards – certainly not the GCB presently in limbo – go to the scorebooks and check to see how many clubs exist and how many matches have been played in these areas. Delegates should then, and only then, be appointed according to this audit.

Should the matter still not be resolved I suggest that the two warring factions be made to play a 20/20 game with Berbice and Essequibo standing umpires, and the Chief Justice as third umpire and match referee supra-(non sub-)judice. Super over applies in case of a tie.

The match should be broadcast live with proceeds going not to the cricket associations to be a source of avarice, but to a charity like the Radio Needy Children’s Fund.

The winning team becomes the reigning Demerara Cricket Board until the next elections.

We can’t lose: Guyana has already become a laughing stock in the cricket world; this can at least show that we are willing to rise above it. Let the game decide.

Yours faithfully,
Roger Bhulai
