Secret information?

Dear Editor,

The rain is pouring, my yard is flooded and soon the water will start to overflow into my bottom flat. So I decided to investigate when I can expect the water to start receding by finding out when it will be high tide and at what time it will be low tide.

I tried the internet and could not find anything so I called Stabroek News.  I was shuffled around to three persons one of whom had a vague idea that it will be around 4 pm, the other one said that it could be found on page 9 and the last one said that her department does not deal with the weather.

So next I tried the Ministry of Agriculture, Hydrometeorological Department on telephone no 2254247. No one there has any idea of the tides but referred me to the Transport and Harbours Department. I called no less a person than the General Manager on 225 9360. The young lady who answered the phone said that yes, they have the information but I will have to go down to the office and purchase the booklet for $1,000! She cannot give me any information on the phone!  Finally one Mr Hinds came to the rescue. High tide is at 6.30pm and low tide about 10.30pm.

Taking into consideration the flooded situation in the city why isn’t this information provided on TV and the radio at regular intervals, I asked.
I was told that they do get info on the tides on Channel 11 on the Evening News. In the meantime drown if you have to.
What a nightmare.

Yours faithfully,
