When will the E-magine service be available to residents of West Coast Demerara?

Dear Editor,

Information in circulation suggests that GT&T E-magine service will not be available to the residents of West Coast Demerara until the latter part of 2012. I have called several representatives of this bigger, better network and sent four different e-mails seeking clarification, but no one has provided a clue on the status of this service.

E-magine has been a huge disappointment from the inception. All Guyanese were led to believe that this service would be available countrywide at the launching.

In this era of advanced technology and modern business planning, one would have expected GT&T to embark on a simultaneous method of laying the fibre-optic cable and preparing the entire network for this country. For some strange reason this was not the preferred method.

To date, three quarters of this country is still stuck with the old crawling 256kb-DSL for the price of $9,980.00. The people of Georgetown/East Coast are enjoying 1 megabit for the same price. This is exploitation, discrimination and injustice perpetrated on three-quarters of internet users in this country. I am asking the PUC and all other organizations vested with the responsibility of protecting consumers to represent us now.

Yours faithfully,
C Woolford
