In a joint opposition group the PNC should provide the presidential candidate

Dear Editor
There is lots of talk about a joint opposition.  If that is required, why do the other parties not align themselves to the Peoples’ National Congress?  The PNC is a party with power, clout, mobilization ability, reach and resourc-es. The others have nothing, except for the AFC. But the fact is there for all to know; some supporters of the AFC are those who went with Mr Trotman when he defected from the PNC. The current presidential candidate of the AFC brought nothing to the AFC.

In my opinion there exist only two political parties worth their salt, and those are the PPP and the PNC, and I will vote for either depending on the issues and leadership.  I am not married to a party.  I vote neither for race nor party loyalty.  I vote for principles, maturity, statesman-like leadership, issues and public behaviour.
It may also be that with the joint opposition, those who were members of the PNC and had left due to Mr Trotman, may return to the PNC; this may be good for the PNC. But personally, I think it should be a PNC-Joint Group, like it was with the PNCR (PNC REFORM).

I find it dangerous to the PNC that this joint opposition may consider anyone other than the PNC leader as the presidential candidate. This will be wrong.  The PNC has the largest component of supporters among those lingering in the opposition benches. They have the largest block of parliamentary and regional seats. The PNC should be the leader of any joint movement, and should not join anything without the name of the PNC.  The founders would roll in pain in their graves.
Yours faithfully,
Roshan Khan
